<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Jesus’ value of women is demonstrated in the work of creation in which He was involved. The Scriptures state that both men and women were made in the image of God. “In the image of God He created them, male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27). They also both were made to rule over creation as co-regents, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth” (Genesis 1:28). Jesus took part in creation as Colossians 1:15 reveals, “For by Him all things were

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">created both in the heavens, and the earth, visible or invisible, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, and authorities. All things have been created by Him and for Him.”

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Womankind’s equal design is demonstrated in her title. Adam gave a title for his wife using an equivalent title to his, asserting that she was an equal counterpart. The word for “woman” (ish-sha) is the feminine counterpart of “man” (ish). While Adam’s giving her a title displayed his authority, he crafted a title showing her equal value in a tender way. He spoke a beautiful poem showing his need and love for her (Genesis 2:23).

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women’s equality is evident in God’s design for their mission and ministry. Early in Genesis, the woman is given her name, “Eve” a name which revealed that she had a special role. Her name “Eve” (chavvah) is related to the word for “living” (chay) for what was the “mother of all the living.” She is designed to nurture life. Her mission and ministry expands from her home to the world. (In later sections I will write about how women’s mission and ministry can flesh out.) Both women and men are charged with the mission and ministry of serving the church and the world proclaiming the good news of the Gospel (Phil 4:2-3).

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women are given the amazing and unique task of being life bearers and nurturers. They alone possess the bodies to hold and develop life and sustain it. Their design is an amazing wonder and this is a great privilege and worthy of honor. She is given a unique role. This unique role is meant to be a beautiful dance where two partners seamlessly move in concert with one another. Her role as helper is in no way showing a difference of worth.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Her role is to follow her husband’s lead and submit herself. Likewise, his role is to sacrifice and die for his wife both in his desires and his body. Both roles are vital. Both man and women are equal in worth. Men are instructed that their duty is to be like “Christ” who “gave himself up for her” (Eph. 5:25). The Trinity exhibits the balance of equal value with differing roles. Each member of the Trinity is equal in essence yet distinct in function.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women’s equal value is also demonstrated in their design as God-worshippers. In Scripture, women are repeatedly used as great examples of faith. Jesus invites the woman at the well to become the type of worshipper that the Father seeks.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">“Believe me woman, an hour is coming, and now is when the true worshippers will worship the father in spirit and truth, for such people the Father seeks to be His worshippers” (John 4:23).

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The ability to bear children is a unique womanly gifting, but it is not central to a woman’s identity before God. Women’s faith in God is central to their identity. In the Bible some women demonstrated themselves to be full of faith despite their inability to have children. As we will see later, this is in stark contrast to the opinions of many ancient cultures.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women’s value is shown in her power to influence those around her. From the beginning, we see women having a powerful influence over the course of history. We will see both examples of highest spiritual influence and examples of extreme evil influence.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">CULTURE’S DISTORTION OF WOMEN’S VALUE

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In the ancient cultures of the Old Testament world, the primary worth attributed to women was their ability to bear children. Hebrew women, on the other hand, had greater value than those in surrounding cultures. They could have various employments and important social standing. They were generally more respected and could be more assertive. But a high regard for women was not universal in Jewish thought. Around the time of the New Testament, some Rabbis regarded women as no more important than a slave or livestock. A famous prayer they coined was, “Thank you, God, that I am not a Gentile, a dog, or a woman.” Jewish culture came to show a deep distrust and dislike of women. They were not able to serve as witnesses in Jewish court and not able to divorce their husbands if they were unfaithful. However, men could divorce for any reason including a burnt meal. Women were not formally taught. They were not talked about much in Rabbinic teaching—almost as if they were so unimportant as to be non-existent. The Greek and Roman culture was not any better. Husbands might frequent temple prostitutes, and wives were expected to accept this adultery. Husbands regarded their own body as theirs, but their wives’ as their own, too.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">SCRIPTURE’S EXAMPLES OF WOMEN’S VALUE

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We have already demonstrated from the Old Testament the design and origin of women. Now we will show that throughout the Old Testament women were to be valued. Women were to be given honor in the family. In Exodus 20:12, the fifth commandment states, “You shall honor your father and your mother.” Both parents were to be honored by their children.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In marriage both women and men had rights and were to please one another. The newly married man was to abstain from war or any other duty so as to “bring joy to his wife” (Duet. 21:10).

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women were part of the singers in the worship practices in the second temple (2 Ch. 35:25, Neh. 7:67).

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women sometimes were lifted up in Scripture as more spiritually minded than their male counterparts. Hannah, Jochabed, Ruth, and Abigail were examples in the Old Testament of high spiritual influence. In Proverbs Wisdom is repeatedly personified as a woman. In the New Testament, Mary, Elizabeth, the widow of Zarepeth, and Priscilla are esteemed for their godliness.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Women are also demonstrated as using their powerful influence for evil. Eve used her influence by sharing the forbidden fruit with her husband who was with her. Time will not allow to tell the stories of Jezebel, and the fallout from Solomon’s foreign wives. Some of these were known for lying, scheming, and their paganizing influence. In the Proverbs there is also the personification of Evil as an adulteress.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Jesus’s ministry to women revealed his care and value of women. This was shown in how he treated his mother, the woman at the well, the woman bent over for eighteen years, the Syrophoenician woman, his interactions with Mary and Martha, and the ones entrusted as the first witnesses of His resurrection. Unlike the Rabbis of the day, Jesus used women as spiritual illustrations of truth in His teaching. He described the woman who loses her coin, the two women grinding at the stone mill, and many others. Jesus valued the unvalued in society, he treated women differently, and he was the great liberator of women.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Jesus ministered with women. Women were important financiers of Jesus’ ministry. They followed and served him. They also were the first to witness the risen Jesus. After the resurrection, women were key members of the one-hundred and twenty believers gathered together (Acts 1:14). The mother of John Mark, Mary, was the hostess of a church that met in her home in Jerusalem. The church in Philippi owed its beginning to Lydia’s conversion (Acts 12:11-16). While some have asserted that Paul and Peter were biased against women, the opposite is clearly true. Paul upilifted women as examples of godliness. Romans 16 mentions at least eight different Christian women as highly regarded by Paul. Priscilla was involved in private teaching and is often mentioned before her husband, indicating her importance (Acts 18:2, 18). Paul describes the church as a glorious woman, the very bride of Christ (Eph. 4:21-32). In the early church key ministry responsibilities were managed by godly women: caring for the sick (I Tim. 3:8-13, Rom. 4:2-3), prayer, fasting, instruction of women, and other activities.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The New Testament’s teaching on marriage and divorce, a dramatically different treatment than common in the culture of the day, protected the rights of women (I Cor. 7:1-11). Men and women were supposed to stay committed to each other. The rights of the wife details that the “husband’s body does not belong to Him alone, but also his wife.”

CONCLUSION

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In conclusion, God’s valuing of women is radically affirmed in his design and taught in Scripture. Throughout the Scripture, this equality has been demonstrated through design, vivid illustrations of godliness, powerful influence, and unique purpose and roles. It is beautifully illustrated in Jesus’s superb interactions and treatment of women.

A few months ago, I had the privilege of sharing at an 11 year old's birthday about true inner beauty. It was such a joy, since she requested the topic and there is so much that God has to say about women and beauty that goes much deeper than what media portrays.

We talked about how when we work on developing these heart qualities that God values, then our inner radiance will permeate to the exterior of our lives. We discussed 3 great passages that are all have 3 in them which talk about the beauty we want to apply.

Are Crayons really harmless?

It is my firm belief that crayons do more to hinder children from growing in art skill and confidence than help. Sure, they are still fun for preschoolers to use, but will do little to help them learn about color blending, pressure, line, and shading. It is an altogether unforgiving medium. You can not change it. You can not sketch with it.

My anti-crayon dogma's mold began to set way back in pre-kindergarten age. I loved drawing as a child, and we didn't have art tools or even crayons at home until I was in Highschool.

I instead drew on our chalkboard, day after day with chalk. Every time I went to church and colored in Sunday School it was with the dreaded crayons. There, i felt like I could not draw, and I couldn't understand why. I remember crying, because I had felt like I really could draw at home. Little did I know that chalk was a great medium to learn how to draw. The texture, feel, and shading one could achieve (though limited) was much closer to Charcoals or Pastels. I had to hold the chalk with the fingers loosely (otherwise it would break). I could not make detailed, tight, or small scale pieces, but instead had to draw larger and therefore use my whole arm. I had no idea, what kind of advantage I had been given in my crayon-less home. I would often section off my favorite sketches on the family chalkboard and try to keep them from erasing away. But even the temporariness of the product, allowed me to enjoy the process of drawing and not get caught up in the pressure of completing a permanent work. The angle of the surface I was drawing on was ideal, since my eyes were able to be parallel with the drawing. Typical drawing while sitting at a desk on a flat surface forces distortion because whatever is closest to your eyes will appear larger than what is farther from you. Standing and drawing is great since it allows more freedom to move your arms. If need be you can even fix large paper on your wall and sketch from that. For sketching on paper, I recommend using a sketching board and angling it against a table or something while it is on your lap at a 45% angle.

I have to admit, I do have the forbidden wax substance in our home. I have two kids under 4 after all, but I do make sure they have access to more flexible mediums. When they turn 5, I will be forced confiscate them and make candles or something for the sake of their future.

Story of the Memory Mural Window.

Memorizing has been a passion for me since I was 18 and memorized my first large chapter: Romans 8. It changed my theology and my relationship with my Lord Jesus. I’m an avid runner and use my running times to memorize Scripture. I call it running with God. When I became a mother, I knew I had to find some creative ways to keep working on Scripture and have enjoyed figuring out how to make memorizing fun for my children. We do lots of memory together even though my oldest has just turned three. We sing, play games and use our Memory Mural. I thank our creative God for my friend Sandy Taylor, who planted the seed for the Memory Mural by asking if I could write on this artwork. I’m so thankful to say (after many hours of experimenting) “Yes!!” I can write and re-write as well as reposition the artwork onto any smooth surface. By the way, now there is a new Memory Mural that works for textured surfaces too. As my daughter has now memorized over 40 verses It has gotten harder and harder to keep track of them all. So I came up with the Memory Window. This is very handy for us as all I have to do is write on the oranges the verses she has memorized and stick them on the branches and look at them. I have the window above her bed and we review some of them each night. It is a little mommy trick I do since I know she wants to stay up, and I have her attention. She always wants to do more verses. It is also so sweet to think that God’s Word is going through her head as she falls asleep. We have arranged the oranges according to category. For instance all of the Exodus 20 ( ten commandments ) verses are next to each other, all of the Gospel verses are next to each other (John 3:16, Romans 3:23, 6:23 I John 1:9) etc. It is so helpful because I can move them around if I want to see which ones need more review. My daughter loves looking at it and it is helping her learn her numbers and letters too. It is a visual reminder to of how fruitful our spiritual lives are when we absorb up God’s Word.

This has helped us save time and makes it much easier since it is on the wall instead of a flashcard somewhere.

One of the biggest obstacles to Memorizing Scripture well is not getting the verses in our brain it is keeping them there. Some memory experts have said that once someone has memorized a verse or a passage it will not stay unless you review repeatedly. It takes time for it to sink into the longer term memory. They suggest reviewing it once a day for 30 days. After that period reviewing it once a week for 30 weeks and then once a month from then on.

Deuteronomy 6:5 commands
us that we should "Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of
your soul, and all of your might." Jesus reiterated this as the greatest
commandment, and also affirmed that the second greatest was to "love your
neighbor as yourself." What amazing commands! God's law can be sifted
down to "love." But so much of the time we think that, or at least
act like, God's Law consists merely of lists of dos and don'ts. God commands
our heart first. And yet as soon as we think of this, most of us, if we dare to
be honest with ourselves, will have to admit that we fall very short of even
these two simple commands.

Is the answer to just try
harder? Does the shame and guilt that we feel cause us to just work more at it?
Do we try to say to ourselves, we need to stop something that is keeping
us from this or start doing something better? Is that where we stop? We
can work hard and let guilt pile on us until we finally despair of our own
inability. Sure, we may do well for a little while, until our other desires
get in the way. Ultimately, it is not what we do that is the most important, it
is what or rather, who we love. Love is key.

Our love is lacking. So,
do we say...Oh, I need to work harder on loving then? Well, maybe. But in most
of the Scriptures which command love for God and each other, there are declarations
before the commands. Deuteronomy 6:1 God says, "I am the Lord your God who
brought you out of the land of Egypt." He declared His loving care for
them first. The same pattern appears in the New Testament. In Colossians 3, God
commands our love by telling us to “put on a heart of compassion, kindness,
gentleness, bearing with one another, forgiving each other." This is
sandwiched in between glorious proclamations of God's love "so as those
who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved," and "just as God in
Christ has forgiven you." It is the work which God has done which
makes our desires change. Really isn't that what the Gospel is anyways?

The gospel is declaration
of the good news of what God has already done. It is not about us. It is about
God. It is about how amazingly good God is and how we desperately need Him. So
why stop trusting in God's goodness at the point of salvation and cling to our
own pitiful self-righteous or self efforts? It is so wonderful that God actually
tells us to love Him. Yet He doesn't do it without showing us His love for us
first. Jesus is God's best picture of love. "For God so loved the world,
that he gave His only Son" (John 3:16).

When we are down, when we
are overwhelmed by life's circumstances, looking towards Jesus and God's
amazing demonstration of His love should be more than enough to bring us up out
of the pit of despair. God sent Jesus to live amongst us (His enemies), who
killed, mocked, and rejected Him. This amazing love was willing to suffer
all this from His creatures, as well as suffer the wrath of God the Father as
he paid for our sins in His body on the cross (I Pet. 2:25) . If we truly wrestled
with this truth and weren't so self-absorbed, or so consumed with our own pain,
we would never doubt His love again. No, we would never love anything more than
Him, even for a moment. We would never need to try harder to love the One who
has loved us that much. In fact, we could count it a great privilege to love
others with that kind of self-sacrificing love since we are so filled with Christ's.
Let's rejoice in His love.

I'm so thrilled about a new use for my canvas movable artwork. This may be its greatest use so far; a memory tool.

Since I am an avid Scripture memorizer and desire to have the Word of God surrounding my home, I can now say "goodbye" to my ugly 3x5 cards. One can write and rewrite whatever one wants to learn. I have made these affordable, so one can use them as gifts or have multiple verses around the house.The colors are neutral so they look great in children's rooms as well as the kitchen etc. They are available in 4 colors: Pink Grapefruit, Light Blueberry, Pear, and Lemon. As always, each canvas art piece will come with a bible lesson and coloring page as well as an art lesson on how to draw one of the birds in this mural banner. (You can find memory murals on my Art Products page.)

The bible lessons will give ideas and tips for memorization entitled : "Treasuring the Word". There is also a Bible lesson entitled "Memorizing with Kids". There is no other spiritual discipline that has changed my spiritual walk more than memorizing. Everyone who has memorized their phone number or address, or multiple lists about the people in your life, can do it. In the bible lesson I will show fun and helpful ways that makes it possible to memorize whether it is one verse or books of God's precious Word. Use your Memory Mural to display your favorite verses or work on your current memory work. The mini size can be very helpful for writing references of verses you are ready to review. The small size is great usually for one verse.

New to Two By Two Art Studio: Scripture Calligraphy Prints & Lessons.

Thankfulness and handwriting are both becoming a lost art. It is rare for our hearts to be automatically gushing forth with what we are glad for rather than grumbling. With communication breaking down to the level of symbols and acronyms, any writing on paper is also scant, let alone attractive writing. Many schools don't even teach cursive writing any more.
New!!! Two by Two Art Studio offers Free Art Lesson & Bible Lesson with each canvas mural purchase.

I am so excited about joining the concept of Artwork that draws out Spiritual Truths that I am including a Bible lesson with each Canvas Mural piece purchased.

The Bible Lesson is entitled "A Good Name" and will serve as a reminder to our children each time they look at their special name on their wall that Proverbs 22:1 says that "a good name is worth more than riches". It is a lesson parents can use to help their children see the importance of their character and what people think of them giving glory to Jesus' name. The bible lesson comes with a coloring page, which they can use to render like their canvas mural. There is also an art lesson which shows them how to draw one of the birds from the banner.

This is so exciting to me, because I love art and helping other's grow in their skill, but even more, I love Scripture, and I would love to help kids grow in their faith & love for God as they grow in their art.

I grew up loving art and copying as much as I could from art around me, but I had no instruction until I was training for my animation career in my late teen years. I utilize the tools which professional artists use and are rarely taught to children. If you want to order your canvas mural go to my products page
